Event description

Description

Pregnant women are experiencing long journeys to give birth, limited care after birth. More babies are dying under one year old. Life expectancy is falling. Migrant mums are charged for care. Britain's record is below other advanced countries in maternal and infant mortality. Cutbacks, closures and privatisation. Midwives and doctors are overworked, underpaid and in short supply. There is just one chance of safe birth. We demand free, high-quality maternity care for all. The maternity service is at the heart of the NHS. Maternity is underfunded and understaffed. We want bursaries reinstated and significantly higher maternity tariff. Across the country, people are struggling to defend or improve their maternity service. UK maternity outcomes need to improve. The experience for women and babies needs to be much safer. This meeting is a chance for campaigners to meet up and share experiences and countrywide, to build the mother of all fightbacks.
