In this session, we explore ways to develop a productive culture for talk in maths by considering what high-quality talk looks like and why it is important. We share and discuss practical strategies and tasks that can help engage children and facilitate exploratory talk.

We also examine how talk strategies can be used, both to support children to communicate their ideas, and to develop their understanding of mathematical concepts and the ability to reason mathematically.
