Day 1 – 4th November (9.00am to 3.00pm)

Day 2 – 11th February (9.00am to 3.00pm)

Day 3 – 17th March(9.00am to 3.00pm)

Participants need to attend all of the sessions listed above to participate in the project.

Target Audience:

Upper KS2 Teachers; maximum of 2 participants per school

Programme Outline:

The focus will be on improving teachers’ understanding of how children learn maths and to ensure they have the appropriate mathematical knowledge to teach their pupils well. The workshops will have an emphasis on mathematical structures in key areas of mathematics.

How does it work? Teachers will attend 3 days of workshops. Classroom practice will develop through a series of gap tasks where teachers try out activities to promote depth of understanding, reasoning and fluency; these might include pupil interviews, lesson study and work scrutiny. Research and evidence are used to inform their practice and teachers are encouraged to share these more widely in schools to support discussion on current policies and approaches.

Workshop 1 Consider how to support children’s development of number sense, mathematical language and reasoning and consider key aspects of Place Value

Workshop 2 The day will focus on Addition and Subtraction and will look at key aspects of understanding these topics.

Workshop 3 The day will focus on Multiplication, Division and fractions and will look at key aspects of understanding these topics.
