Mayshe-Mayshe is the solo project of Yorkshire songwriter and producer Alice Rowan. Her music blends dreamy art-pop and electronica with rich storytelling and infectious melodies, with organic elements woven into all aspects of her music. If you like Imogen Heap, Björk, The XX, then Mayshe-Mayshe is for you!
Combining vintage synths, drum machines & choral vocals, her unique brand of experimental electropop is as unconventional as it is captivating. Part diary, part escapism, her confessional songs explore imaginary worlds and the messy terrain of the mind with a cathartic honesty.
Mayshe-Mayshe returns this October with her deeply evocative new album, Mosswood, inspired by the poetic imaginary world of Tove Jansson’s final two Moomin novels. Drawing on their darker emotional undercurrents, the record traces themes of loneliness, anxiety, and loss—while also embracing the quiet joy of wandering, observing, and being present in nature.
For the first time, Mayshe-Mayshe weaves field recordings and found sounds into her ethereal production, grounding her signature explorations of mental health in a lush sonic landscape shaped by moss, rain and birdsong. The album blends influences from Björk, Múm, and Green-House together with literary echoes of Jansson’s work, creating a peaceful, immersive journey that lingers long after the final chords.
Mayshe-Mayshe’s live performance is a dynamic live-looped performance of lofi electronica, soft rhythms and intimate vocal harmonies that build into deep oceans of sound.
