The Men Minds Project

Learn about Men Minds &amp; help us to shape the future of mental health for marginalised young men: LGBTQI+, migrant &amp; in conflict with the law

The Men Minds Project will work with young men aged 16-24 to find new ways to improve understanding of, and research into, adolescent mental health and wellbeing. Men Minds will focus on three groups of adolescent males who often find themselves at the margins: those in conflict with the law; those who identify as LGBTQI+ and those who are migrants. Men Minds aims to increase understanding of the factors that influence young men’s masculine identities and the impact these identities have on understandings of mental health, help-seeking attitudes and wellbeing outcomes. Men Minds will also co-produce and develop new research methods and approaches with young men that aim to be more relevant, inclusive and accessible for mental health research with marginalised adolescents.
As part of this project we are hosting a series of events with key policymakers and practitioners in Scotland who have a role in relation to mental health or who work with young men from our three groups: young men in conflict with the law, young migrants, LGBTQI+ young men. We want to understand current practices, challenges for services and the level of knowledge in relation to the mental health needs of marginalised young men. The insights gained at these events will help to shape our research and inform our research outputs. 
At this event you will get to have a chance to network with colleagues, hear more about the project and background research to the project. You will also have the opportunity to take part in discussion groups to share perspectives, practices, insights and knowledge and gaps in understanding or services. 
This event is in Glasgow, but dates in Dundee and Inverness will follow in May 2023. 
Do you have to take part?
Attendance at this event is voluntary. However, attending the event signifies a willingness to take part in the project by sharing your professional perspectives on mental health and/or working with marginalised young men. 
What information will be being collected at the event?
The information we will gather at the event includes information from a short pre-event survey (to follow), meeting notes, discussion groups, audio recordings and feedback forms. We will not collect personal information about you or any young people you work with.
