MEN-O-PAUSE: What’s Going On Down There, Doc?
A Clinical Education Session for GPs
Hosted by Bloom Health Hospitals Ltd
Delivered by Mr Ibrahim Jour, Consultant Urologist
📅 Wednesday 22nd April | ⏰ 18:45
📍 Bloom Health Hospitals Ltd, Milton Keynes
Overview
Bloom Health invites local GPs to an interactive, case-based educational evening focused on common—but often under-discussed—presentations in men’s health.
Patients frequently present in primary care with symptoms that are vague, sensitive, or multifactorial in nature—ranging from fatigue and low mood to sexual dysfunction and genitourinary concerns. These cases can be clinically nuanced, time-pressured, and at times difficult to navigate within standard consultation windows.
This session is designed to support GPs with practical, evidence-based approaches to assessment, initial management, and referral decision-making in key areas of men’s health.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, attendees will be able to:
- Understand the clinical relevance and limitations of “male andropause”
- Identify appropriate testing thresholds and interpretation of hormonal profiles
- Recognise when erectile dysfunction may indicate underlying cardiovascular disease
- Confidently assess and initiate management for common urological presentations
- Identify red flags and referral pathways for specialist input
- Improve patient communication strategies around sensitive topics
Key Topics
🔬 Male Andropause (Testosterone Deficiency)
- Clinical validity vs. overdiagnosis
- Indications for testing and interpretation challenges
- When (and when not) to initiate treatment
- Managing patient expectations
❤️ Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
- ED as an early marker of systemic disease
- Cardiovascular risk correlation and screening implications
- First-line management in primary care
- When to escalate or refer
⚕️ Peyronie’s Disease
- Early identification in primary care
- Natural history and progression
- Conservative vs. specialist management pathways
- Supporting patients with confidence and clarity
Format
- Case-based discussion reflecting real-world GP presentations
- Interactive learning environment with opportunity for Q&A
- Focus on practical application, not just theory
- Peer discussion and shared learning
