To mark International Women’s Day #ChooseToChallenge, Adam Smith Business School is proud to host an expert panel discussing breaking the stigma of menopause at work. As many as 1 million women in the UK are currently experiencing menopause while working. In this webinar, women leaders from across policy and industry will consider the opportunities for positive and proactive engagement with menopausal transition in work, facilitated by Professor Kathleen Riach, an internationally renowned expert on menopause and the workplace and author of Menopause Information Pack online (MIPO), a free, open access resource for managers.This webinar will be hosted via Zoom. Christina McKelvie MSP was appointed Minister for Older People and Equalities in June 2018. An elected MSP since 2007 and formally convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Equalities and Human Rights Committee (EHRIC), she has been a vocal and passionate advocate for women’s equalities and menopause in particular, having led the debate on Menopause in the Scottish parliament in May 2019. Having previously worked for Glasgow City council as a learning development officer, Christina has a wide range of political interests including children and young people, employment, community empowerment and regeneration, human rights and international development.

Christine Barr is the Executive Director of Human Resources at the University of Glasgow. Christine is a solution focused leader with a track record of delivery at corporate and strategic levels both within the public and private sectors. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel &amp; Development with an MSc in Human Resources Management, Christine spent her early career in a series of HR professional roles in the retail, manufacturing and water industries. Christine has led the development and implementation of the University’s People Strategy in the achievement of major HR strategic initiatives aligned with the ambitious strategic plans of the institution. She is an active participant in the UHR, Russell Group and Universitas 21 networks.

Jane English, Channel 4, chairs 4Women, Channel 4’s gender equality network. She oversees initiatives &amp; events for its 400+ members, empowering Channel 4 women to achieve their own version of success.In 2019, Jane led Channel 4’s pioneering launch of the UK media industry’s first ever menopause policy, after hearing that female colleagues were suffering in silence from perimenopausal symptoms. Jane believes passionately that menopause isn’t a ‘women’s issue’, it’s everyone’s issue, &amp; hopes Channel 4’s actions will inspire others to help end the silence and stigma around menopause in the workplace. Jane is also a Business Director in 4Creative, Channel 4’s award-winning in-house creative agency. She’s overseen campaigns that support minority voices &amp; inspire social change, as well as marketing much-loved Channel 4 shows such as The Great British Bake Off. She’s currently working on the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games campaign, continuing Channel 4’s legacy for transforming attitudes towards disability.

Sharon Vibert is a Director of Henpicked: Menopause in the Workplace. Their focus is supporting employers in becoming menopause friendly, following best practice standards. From introducing policies or guidance documents, educating and training colleagues, providing the right support and keeping the conversations going. They&#x27;re into their 5th year and work with a wide-range of public and private sector employers, large and small. Sharon&#x27;s interests are in female health and wellness, particularly focusing on menopause, which also led her to start Good Midlife Vibes providing a community and platform for women to help one another by sharing their wisdom, stories, tips and support.

Kathleen Riach is Professor at Adam Smith Business School and an international expert in gender and ageing at work. Her pioneering research on menopause at work led to the first Australian-based online support for line managers (www.menopauseatwork.org), a free and open access toolkit to support menopausal transition in the workplace that has been downloaded over 10,000 times worldwide and has led to invitations to speak across Europe, Australia and the US. Recognising the power that organizations and managers have to support women’s mid-later life careers, she is currently working on an intervention-based
 study with corporate partners exploring inclusive menopause support and a research council funded project on successfully promoting Women’s leadership in the healthcare sector.
