Lloyds Bank Foundation have been working with partners in Merthyr Tydfil since 2019 to get to know the area and it’s people, with a view to beginning a long term piece of work in the area. This workshop kicks off this longer term work by starting with bringing partners together to think through what the strengths and assets of the community are, and what local people and organisations would like to see change that we can work on together.

We will be showing a film which has captured some of the really positive things that have happened during 2020 as we have experienced the impact of COVID 19 and lockdown and provide an opportunity to reflect and build on this learning. We will also begin to look at what the future could hold for the area, if we can build on the existing strengths and this new learning.

The background to our work

At Lloyds Bank Foundation we're really excited to be initiating some focused work in Merthyr Tydfil. This work will look at how bringing people together from across sectors and communities can ensure that people facing complex social issues can access services that allow them to have a positive future and can thrive. These people may be experiencing abuse, drug and/or alcohol dependency, they may be homeless, or they could be experiencing mental health difficulties or a range of other issues.

This long term work is different from the usual work of the Foundation. It isn't about making grants, but about how we overcome the challenges we are collectively facing by building collaborative relationships, and together look at how resources can be used to transform and strengthen services. The work will involve people from across the whole area, including:

- those who commission services in the public sector

- local businesses and the private sector

- those who deliver services, in particular, those VCSE organisations who are often closest to need

- Social landlords

- People living in the community who may need or use services

- Anyone who would like to be part of the conversation!

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anyone living or working within Merthyr Tydfil, from charities, local authority, social landlords, public sector commissioners, and anyone who has an interest in what services in the area could look like. The session will be of particular interest to those who are in senior or management roles, however the workshop is open to anyone who is interested in finding out more or would like to be involved.
