Come learn from world-renowned capoeira mestre and musician, Mestre Gaje, as he visits London in May. Hailing from the famous Mercado Modelo in Bahia, Mestre Gaje will be coming to SOAS to share his knowledge and music with us. Don’t miss out on this special opportunity!
Mestre Gaje has released a number of capoeira albums such as Viajando pelo mundo and Capoeira Mercado Modelo with Mestre Valu. His last trip to London in 2022 is fondly remembered and we are excited to welcome him back to London, hosted at SOAS University of London by Mestre Pastel and his group Raizes de Rua.
Mestre Gaje's contribution to capoeira music carries the Afro-Brazilian culture forward, forming part of this resistant lineage which originates in the self-liberation of enslaved people in Brazil. In coming to Europe, Mestre Gaje will visit us to spread his experience across the world. This workshop will offer a chance to people of all levels to learn from this great Mestre and enrich our capoeira understanding.
