About this event

Note that Day 2 will run at the Natural History Museum London not the British Ecological Society

Reproducibility is important for scientific rigour and allows us to re-use data and code efficiently.

This event is a hackathon to test and discuss a protocol for assessing whether data/code associated with published literature is actually reproducible, and if not, why.

We will run through the protocol and test it on papers published in British Ecological Society journals. All attendees will be given the opportunity to be authors on a paper summarising the results.

All welcome, no need to be a coding whizz! If you can read a paper, click on links and answer some simple questions about data/code (e.g. Is it in a csv, txt, xls, pdf format?) you've got the skills we need.

This event will run in person and online, across two days. Attendees are welcome to attend both or one of the days. Day 1 will mostly be testing the protocol, Day 2 will mostly be collating data. You will need to register for each day you want to attend due to differences in venue capacity. Tickets are £5 per day to cover food, teas/coffees.

    Day 1 - 29th September 2025, 10am-5pm GMT
Location: British Ecological Society offices, 42 Wharf Rd, London N1 7GS
For in person attendees, lunch and coffee/tea will be provided.

    Day 2- 30th September 2025, 10am-4pm GMT
Location: Flett Theatre, Natural History Museum, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD
In person attendees will be required to bring their own lunch, reusable mug and water bottle. Coffee/tea will be provided.

The event will be lead by Methods in Ecology and Evolution Senior Editor Natalie Cooper and the MEE editorial team. If you have any questions, please contact coordinator@methodsinecologicalevolution.org
