Create a series of miniature middens using precious and personal items.
Join Midden Collective in making a series of miniature middens from precious and personal, or discarded and dismembered objects.
"... Midden are akin to mankind’s inscriptions in nature; they provide a tangible archive of a generation's (human or creature) lifestyle, behaviour, and diet…” (Neva Elliott, ‘The Trash Heap has Spoken’, 2022)
Participants will be brought on a tour of the exhibition ‘Toss’ and given an insight into the artists’ ways of working before being guided through a midden-making process. You are asked to bring along three objects, small enough to fit in your hand, if possible. Alternatively, you can choose from a collection of objects provided by the artists. The objects can be selected for their sentimental or aesthetic value. The workshop will exercise critical thinking and material valuing, playing with the classification systems of Borges and Baudrillard.
