How should we design a migration policy for the Common Good? 
Immigration is arguably the most significant issue affecting the West today, and in the aftermath of the UK’s EU Referendum there is both a need and an opportunity for us to develop a new way of managing the movement of people. 
Post Brexit, how should the British state handle migration policy to accommodate the interests of our different communities? How should we approach integration? How should we imagine building a common life together? What would a good immigration policy look like? Building on the new book from Theos and Jessica Kingsley Publishers <A HREF="https://www.theosthinktank.co.uk/research/2001/01/31/fortress-britain" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fortress Britain: Ethical Approaches to Immigration Policy for a Post–Brexit Britain</A>, what would an ethical approach to migration look like today?

David is Head of Demography, Immigration & Integration at Policy Exchange and author of the best selling The Road to Somewhere: The new tribes shaping British politics.</LI>
<LI><A HREF="https://www.kent.ac.uk/politics/staff/canterbury/pabst.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Adrian Pabst</A>. Adrian is Reader in Politics in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent, and co-author (with John Milbank) of The Politics of Virtue: Post-liberalism and the Human Future.</LI>
<LI><A HREF="http://www.politics.qmul.ac.uk/staff/profiles/kershenanne.html" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dr Anne Kershen</A>. Anne was the founder and director of the Centre for the Study of Migration at Queen Mary University, London, where she is now Honorary Senior Research Fellow. She is Series Editor of over 40 books in the Routledge series, Studies in Migration and Diaspora.</LI>
<LI><A HREF="http://www.jcwi.org.uk/jcwi-staff" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Satbir Singh</A>. Satbir is CEO of JCWI (Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants). A human rights advocate and campaigner, he works on issues of access to justice, open government, press freedom and sustainable development across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.</LI>
<LI><A HREF="https://www.uri.org/kiran-bali-mbe-jp" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Kiran Bali MBE JP</A>. Kiran is the chair of URI (United Religions Initiative). A climate change and intereligious activist, she sits on the Advisory Council of Migration Watch and became one of Britain's youngest magistrates in 2007.</LI>

This is the first in the series of three public debates, State, Society and the Common Good to be held in partnership by <A HREF="https://www.theosthinktank.co.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Theos</A> with the <A HREF="https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/research/centres/benedict-xvi/about.aspx" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Benedict XVI Centre</A> at <A HREF="https://www.stmarys.ac.uk/home.aspx" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">St Mary's University, Twickenham</A> and <A HREF="http://www.togetherforthecommongood.co.uk/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Together for the Common Good</A>. The series aims to bring people together to talk about the proper role of the state in generating a good society. In particular, we will be looking at the relationship of government with Migration (2 July 2018), with the Family (8 November 2018), and with Church and Community (7 March 2019). 
They will be held at <A HREF="http://stmarys.parishofputney.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">St Mary's Church in Putney</A>, home of the 1647 Putney Debates on the nature of democracy in England, which formulated the first doctrine of suffrage in Britain. 
Wine and canapés follow the event. Doors open at 6.45pm, with the event starting at 7pm.  Books will be on sale at the event; please bring cash if you think you may like to purchase any (we're unable to take card payments).
Entry to the church is via the 'Putney Pantry' (church cafe).  The venue is fully accessible.  Please use public transport to get to the venue (train station Putney and underground station Putney Bridge are close by, along with many bus links).
