Description

Join us for a special Refugee Week late opening featuring storytelling, performances, music, food and more.

This will be a free event, with different activities taking place throughout the evening in our café space.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

6:30pm: A dance workshop by the Hawiyya Dance Company, a women’s dabke group who explore identity, culture and resistance through dance. Limited spaces available given on a first come first served basis

7:30pm: A story-telling performance by Qisetna, a non-political platform for Syrians and the people who have a close connection, preserving the cultural and oral heritage of Syria, from food to aspirations to treasured places.

9pm onwards: Yamen Makdad, a Syrian sound artist, will be playing records throughout the evening from his collection, which spans across folk from around the world to jazz, field recordings, experimental and electronic music.

Throughout the evening you'll have the opportunity to purchase Lebanese food by Migrateful chef Ahmad. Migrateful is a charity which helps refugees, asylum seekers and migrants to gain skills through cookery. Your purchase will subsidise meals for refugee and asylum-seeking guests attending.

During the event, you will also have the chance to explore our Room to Breathe exhibition and visit our new exhibition Borderless, curated by artist-curator and educator Dima Karout – a collective exhibition featuring works by all of the artists who have taken up residency in the art studio inside our Room to Breathe exhibition since November 2018.

This is a free event, but please register in advance to guarantee entry on the evening.
