September 2025 is the 81st anniversary of Operation Market Garden. When soldiers from the South Staffordshire Regiment were landed by glider in an attempt to capture the bridge across the Lower Rhine. This is their story.

Operation Herrick | Command on the front line in Afghanistan- Brigadier (Retd) SJ Banton OBE

Nineteenth September marks the anniversary of Operation Sledgehammer, in the Upper Gereshk Valley, Afghanistan. The very first action of the newly formed Mercian Regiment (formed on 01 September 2007) and the only battle for that tour when all three rifle companies of 2 MERCIAN were employed together. Lt CoI Simon Banton was in command.
