Hayley Wells is an Essex-based illustrator with an MA in Children’s Book Illustration from Cambridge School of Art. Their work has been shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards, featured on television, and published worldwide.When they’re not illustrating, Hayley can be found growing vegetables at their allotment or falling over on roller skates.

Saturday 22nd June 2pm-4pmDark Side Comics, ChelmsfordMini comics are a fun and easy introduction to making comics! In this playful 2-hour workshop, illustrator Hayley Wells will guide you through the process of making your own short comics and will provide tips on layout, pacing and dialogue to give your comics more impact. - We'll break the ice by making fast, collaborative comics. Much like the parlour game, 'Consequences', we will each draw one panel before passing it on to the next person. Then it is up to that person to decide what happens next, and so on until the comic reaches its end. This can lead to bizarre, funny, and often surprising results!- Next we'll move on to our individual comics and will work by creating panels on separate pieces of paper. This will allow us to change the order of the sequence, insert new panels, and remove panels with ease. Here Hayley will be on hand to help with ideas, suggestions and practical advice to help improve your comics. - By the end of the workshop you'll have completed at least one mini comic (but hopefully more!).All materials will be provided but you are welcome to bring along your own dry drawing materials.Please note that the workshop is intended for ages 16+ and basic drawing experience is recommended but not required. Should under 16s wish to attend, we will be more than happy to adapt the content to suit their ability level but please be aware that under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
