Upskill your organisation by learning the skill of minute taking

Minute taking involves more than simply taking notes, this essential skill in the third sector tends to be overlooked. Iris Aitchison, Events and Commercial Lecturer from Edinburgh College, will explain how to listen well, be concise and determine the relevant action points in this interactive and engaging session.

Learning Outcomes:

• Understand the importance of the minute taking role

• Prepare the agenda, minute taking and follow up actions

• How memory works and how to achieve metacognition

• Develop active listening skills

• Practical help to aid minute taking

• Hints and Tips in minute taking

This event will be held on Microsoft Teams.

Introductions to delegates, objectives and course content

Discussion of delegates’ organisational roles, experience, needs

Important skill set required of a note or minute taker

The role of the minute taker – prepare the agenda, minute taking of key points and follow up actions

Rationale and layout for different types of minutes; formal, informal, action minutes


Coffee break


How our memory works and how to improve it

What are metacognition skills?

Develop active listening skills

Hints and tips on how to take good notes for translation into minutes
