GLORIES OF THE RENAISSANCE
A trio of sumptuous works from a golden era of sacred music, including one of the most famous masses of all time, Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli, heard in a rare complete performance. Opening the concert is one of sacred music’s absolute gems – Ave Maria – by the English composer, Robert Parsons. To complete the trio of composers, the Ulster Consort sings a setting of Psalm 121, I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, by the late Renaissance former Master of the Choristers at St Paul’s Cathedral, London, Martin Peerson.
