Overview

This event will be held in held in conjunction with with the University of Ulster and Lewis Silkin commercial law firm in Belfast.

The mock tribunal is an annual event and the highlight of the CIPDNI calendar annually. It is valuable because it will provide a safe, practical environment for employees to understand legal processes, improve decision-making skills, and build confidence in handling real-life workplace disputes.


This event will cover the full process of an employment tribunal hearing, giving participants a realistic experience of what happens in practice. Common areas include:

  • Case Preparation – Reviewing documentation, witness statements, and understanding roles.
  • Legal Framework – Key employment law principles, unfair dismissal, discrimination, grievance handling.
  • Hearing Procedure – Opening statements, examination and cross-examination of witnesses, presenting evidence.
  • Decision-Making – How tribunals reach conclusions and apply the law to facts.
  • Practical Skills – Questioning techniques, managing evidence, and handling objections.
  • Common Pitfalls – Mistakes employers make and how to avoid them.
