About this event
This summer, Eat Momo will be bringing back Momo Parties for a second series with Angela Hui, Rake and Xanthe Ross.
Founded by sisters Dipa and Trishna Chamling in Borough Yards, Eat Momo is centred around the steamed Nepalese dumplings known as Momo. Taking place over three months, Dipa and Trishna have invited some much-loved authorities in food to put their own take on the handmade Nepali dumplings with fillings inspired by their favourite dishes and ingredients. Flowing from the kitchen throughout the evening, tickets are priced at £35 per person, inviting guests to unlimited momo and an arrival drink. Alongside the special momo, Eat Momo will serve their signature pork, chicken and paneer momo with sides including aalu ko achar with Nepali beers and cocktails by Moth. A portion of the sales will be donated to the charity Ele Elna Elak.
Jay Claus and Syrus Pickhaver, founders of Rake who are currently holding residency at Compton Arms - known for their playful take on classic British dishes, with cooking rooted in simplicity and the finest seasonal ingredients. Their momo will be a seasoned ray wing fried momo, with spicy golden syrup drizzled on top, served with a ranch dipping sauce laced with garlic, onion and chives. The momo is inspired by their classic Rake dish - the spicy ray wing tenders on a freshly baked crumpet.
Angela Hui, author of TAKEAWAY: A Childhood Behind the Counter and food writer, will kick off in July with a Chinese twist on the classic momo. Inspired by her roots, Angela’s created a momo with a riff on 雪菜肉絲湯米 - pickled snow cabbage and shredded pork vermicelli rice noodles in a dumpling form with a chilli garlic sauce. Her momo is inspired by a staple of many cha chaan teng Hong Kong diners, where it's a common dish for a breakfast fix and at the hot cooked food stalls on top of wet markets.
Closing the series in September will be Xanthe Ross, the London-based cook, author and supper club host with a passion for telling stories of suppliers through her dishes. Playfulness, community and simplicity are at the heart of Xanthe’s cooking - with this she has created a momo made with confit aubergine and ricotta, with a heritage tomato sauce.
On launching the second series of momo parties, founders Dipa and Trishna Chamling say "we are so delighted to be collaborating with some more wonderful people who are each doing really inspiring cooking. Opening Eat Momo was a tribute to our childhood in Nepal and our passion for bringing the tradition and rituals of Momo-making to London, so it is fun to see them put their own personality and history into a momo!”
Momo Party tickets are available to purchase here for £35pp and will include a welcome drink and unlimited momo.
