Event description

Description

Farida Akhter, Bangladeshi economist and founder of one of the biggest community seed banks in the world is coming to Edinburgh to talk about her work and the impact Monsanto has had on farmers in her country. She will be on her way to the Hague to give evidence against the global food corporation, at a symbolic people's court at the Hague this October.

This event, at Out of the Blue Drill Hall, will also host a photo exhibition on Monsanto's impact on the subcontinent. Global Justice Now has commissioned photo journalist Jordi Cirera to visit some of these witnesses in India and Bangladesh. His photos tell the stories of farmers who are fighting Monsanto to work out an alternative model of farming.

Monsanto will be on trial at the Hague from the 14 - 16 October. The company stands accused of ecoside and witnesses will give accounts of the human rights abuses, threats to their communities and destruction of their environment caused by Monsanto.
