Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing

By Children in Wales | Plant yng Nghymru

Overview

Learn a collaborative, person-centred approach to support behaviour change in challenging conversations.

Two-day, Face-to-Face course

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a collaborative, goal-oriented communication style that focuses on the language of change. It aims to strengthen personal motivation and commitment by exploring an individual’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion (Miller & Rollnick, 2013).

Originally developed in the 1980s for work with substance-using clients, MI has evolved over the past 40 years to apply across diverse contexts—any situation where conversations about behaviour change are challenging or met with resistance. MI is both person-centred and directional, offering more than a set of techniques; it is a way of being that enhances motivation for change.

In child and family settings, MI helps practitioners have constructive conversations that support safety and wellbeing for children and families.

This course will provide:

  • A clear understanding of MI goals, concepts, processes, and skills
  • Opportunities to practice and refine skills using scenarios and real-life examples
  • Techniques to identify and respond to language predicting behaviour change
  • Insight into managing ‘discord’ in relationships and fostering positive engagement
  • Reflection on applying MI in child and family contexts with confidence

Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for professionals working with children, families, or individuals in challenging circumstances.

The training includes small and large group exercises, case discussions, film excerpts, and tutor demonstrations. Come prepared for an engaging, practical, and enjoyable learning experience.

Cyfweld Cymhellol

Cwrs Deuddydd, Wyneb yn Wyneb

Mae Cyfweliadau Ysgogol (MI) yn arddull gyfathrebu gydweithredol, sy'n canolbwyntio ar nodau ac sy'n canolbwyntio ar iaith newid. Ei nod yw cryfhau cymhelliant ac ymrwymiad personol trwy archwilio rhesymau unigolyn ei hun dros newid mewn awyrgylch o dderbyn a thosturi (Miller a Rollnick, 2013).

Wedi'i ddatblygu'n wreiddiol yn y 1980au ar gyfer gwaith gyda chleientiaid sy'n defnyddio sylweddau, mae MI wedi esblygu dros y 40 mlynedd diwethaf i'w gymhwyso ar draws cyd-destunau amrywiol—unrhyw sefyllfa lle mae sgyrsiau am newid ymddygiad yn heriol neu'n wynebu gwrthwynebiad. Mae MI yn canolbwyntio ar y person ac yn gyfeiriadol, gan gynnig mwy na set o dechnegau; mae'n ffordd o fod sy'n gwella cymhelliant i newid.

Mewn lleoliadau plant a theuluoedd, mae MI yn helpu ymarferwyr i gael sgyrsiau adeiladol sy'n cefnogi diogelwch a lles plant a theuluoedd.

Bydd y cwrs hwn yn darparu:

  • Dealltwriaeth glir o nodau, cysyniadau, prosesau a sgiliau MI
  • Cyfleoedd i ymarfer a mireinio sgiliau gan ddefnyddio senarios ac enghreifftiau bywyd go iawn
  • Technegau i nodi ac ymateb i iaith sy'n rhagweld newid ymddygiad
  • Mewnwelediad i reoli 'anghydfod' mewn perthnasoedd a meithrin ymgysylltiad cadarnhaol
  • Myfyrio ar gymhwyso MI mewn cyd-destunau plant a theuluoedd yn hyderus
