Monthly Workshops for Life & Living

Let your skeleton support you! Improve your posture and balance, move with more comfort, ease, and power, free your breathing, and feel better.

This session explores a reciprocal relationship between flexor and extensor muscles.
Flexor muscles contract to enable us to bend, and curl up (at the same time, in a well organised action, the extensor muscles disengage and lengthen). Extensor muscles – termed ‘anti-gravity’ muscles by Dr Feldenkrais – contract to straighten ourselves and keep us upright (and the flexor muscles disengage and lengthen.)

When this dynamic reciprocal relationship is not well organised, and most of us experience some version of it, co-contraction of front and back can impede our functional movement and make it effortful. Co-contraction interferes with the fundamental human functions of transferring of weight through the skeleton and the effective mobilisation of the anti-gravity function.
Habitual tightening and contracting of our core muscles (central muscles of our torso) can cause chronic tension and pain in our back, neck, shoulders, and ribs, as well as restricted breathing, and digestive problems.

Fortunately, the human brain is also attracted to things that can help. Feldenkrais lessons can help you notice habits of action and movement that are not serving you well and provide you with the means to replace those habits with more efficient, pleasant, and beneficial ways of moving and being.

Closely related to the February and March workshops, all working together towards improving your skeletal support and the overall organisation when upright. Whilst each workshop can be experienced independently, in order to maximise the benefits, I recommend attending as many as you can.

And, we will be ‘unpacking’ this theme even further in the upcoming series: Unpacking POSTURE (9 May, 6 June, 18 July).

Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement lessons consist of a series of gentle, ingenious movements, verbally directed and exploratory in nature. There are hundreds of lessons which focus on different themes and interconnections between the nervous system, the muscles, the skeletal system, and our responses to the world around us.

Each month we focus on a different theme keeping us engaged in building a clearer image of ourselves, by paying attention to our sensations as we move. Broadly beneficial and appropriate for people of all ages, interests and abilities.

Book your place for a 2 hour long Feldenkrais session and start enjoying the benefits.

Wear comfortable layered clothing. Please bring your own floor mat to lie on if you can (some mats will be provided if you do not bring yours).

Booking via Eventbrite or contact Ana directly, www.feldenkraiswithana.com.

If event SOLD OUT, please email Ana directly as there might be some last minute places available!

Everyone welcome. Join & Enjoy!
