<H2>A free, one-day event for ‘plus ones’ of people recently diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS)</H2>
MS+1 is a new event that provides information and guidance for people who have a friend, relative or partner who has recently been diagnosed with MS.
What is MS? How is it treated? What’s going to change in our lives? MS doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed – it’s normal for the people close to them to have lots of questions too. Knowing where to turn for information and support can be difficult. MS+1 aims to change this.
During this one-day event, experts and experienced plus ones will lead small friendly group sessions covering a variety of topics:

Beneath the skin: What is MS? MS researchers use hands-on learning to delve into the brain to understand what causes the symptoms experienced by people with MS

My-Self care Looking after yourself is as important as looking after the person with MS – experienced plus ones and a expert share simple tips and tricks for looking after your own wellbeing
</LI>

The dangers of Dr Google: Myths, taboos and pseudoscience A new diagnosis can be a case of information overload and knowing what to believe can be confusing. Experts will myth-bust everything from fatigue and vitamin D supplements to stem cells

Who can help me with what? An MS specialist nurse will answer all your questions about MS and access to services. They will share advice and explain how their role can help you beyond just clinical support 
</LI>

 The Goldsmiths’ Centre, 42 Britton Street, London, EC1M 5AD The Goldsmiths’ Centre is a 2-minute walk from Farringdon station
Food and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Please state any dietary requirements when registering. 
Please note, this meeting is a pilot and therefore we will be seeking continuous feedback throughout the day to help us to improve and shape the final programme.

<H3 CLASS="MsoBodyText">We understand you may have a few questions about attendance, so please see some questions and answers below. We very much welcome your feedback if any of the following would impact on your ability to attend the day.  </H3>
Can I bring my relative/friend with MS to the session? The MS+1 session has been designed for plus ones (i.e. those who support a partner, friend or relative with MS) to provide information and guidance in a supportive and open way. To enable this open discussion, we believe it’s important that the day is limited to plus ones. 
Am I able to bring my children with me to the MS+1 training day? We want you to get the most out of the training day, and the focus to be on you as plus ones. Therefore we will not be accommodating children or providing facilities to care for them on the day.
Is financial assistance for travel available? Financial support will be available to those who are in need to ensure they can attend the training day and make the most of this opportunity. Please let us know as early as possible if you require assistance and we will be happy to arrange this for you.
My friend/relative has had MS for some time, can I still attend? Absolutely, while the day is aimed at people who are new to MS, if you feel that the content would be helpful to you, you are more than welcome to attend.
I am worried about talking in front of a group and sharing my experiences, how much will I need to talk? The focus of the day is for us to share knowledge and information with you. While we very much encourage people to chat and share their experiences, thoughts and concerns, please rest assured, you can share as much or as little as you want to. There will be no pressure for you to actively participate if you don’t want to. Equally, if you have questions you don’t feel comfortable asking directly, you will be able to do this anonymously on the day.
