MSAxAiM: MAKING MATTERS – CLAY WORKSHOP
Join us this March for Making Matters: Clay – a hands-on course designed especially for architects and creatives.
The course is a collaboration between the Manchester Society of Architects, the Architects Index of Modelmaking, and Clay Studio, running alongside the exhibition at Material Source in Manchester City Centre.
Taught by ceramic artists Stephen Graham and Nastassia Blahadava, this three-part course introduces the basics of slab building. Across two extended making sessions and a final glazing session, you’ll create your own simple form – or collection of forms – using 4mm clay slabs with mitred joints.
You might:
- Develop an abstract sculptural piece
- Create a concept model for a project on your drawing board
- Take inspiration from a place or building you love
The focus is on exploring clay as a medium and connecting with fellow architects in a relaxed, creative environment. No elaborate plans required – simple is often best.
Location: Clay Studio, 20 King Street, Stretford, M32 8EA
(5 minutes from Stretford Tram Stop. Parking at Stretford Mall or Lacy Street Carpark. Bike racks on King Street.)
Dates &Time:
08.03.2026 | 1.30–4.00pm — Slab Building Part 1
22.03.2026 | 1.30–4.00pm — Slab Building Part 2
29.03.2026 | 4.30–5.30pm — Glazing
Tickets: £45+VAT
Your work will be fired between sessions two and three, and again after glazing.
All materials are provided. If you’d like to bring ideas, simple printed elevation-style templates are welcome. Please also bring an apron (if you have one), two sturdy carrier bags, and a clothes peg.
Spaces are very limited – make sure you book early to secure a space.
