About this event
Returning to work following a period of maternity leave can be a nerve-wracking experience, exacerbated by the emotions surrounding leaving a small baby for the first time.
But with our 90 minute workshop, we'll get you feeling confident and prepared for your return!
As well as detailing key legal information and sharing expectations of best practice, you'll benefit from a coaching-style approach giving you the headspace to consider what you need now, the boundaries you can set, what you want your life to look like as a parent-teacher, and the chance to share tips to get organised at home and at school.
Live and recorded access tickets are available.
Fully-Funded Access
This workshop is fully-funded for state school colleagues in England (teachers, leaders, support staff, central Trust colleagues, and those intending to return to state school settings following parental leave / a caring-related career break.)
Please do explore our funding partners in your region, and reach out to them to show your appreciation where appropriate.

FAQs
- It's not letting me reserve tickets!
Eventbrite can sometimes be glitchy: try changing your internet browswer or switching from the app to a browser version. If this still doesn't work, email mtptproject@gmail.com with your name, the type of school you work in (state / independent), the county or London borough you are based in and your ticket preference and we willl book you in manually.
- I'm a father - am I allowed to come?
100% yes. This workshop is for anyone who has taken a caring-related career break and is stepping back into school. Ensuring that fathers who have taken an extended period of paternity, adoption or shared parental leave feel welcome on our programmes is an important and ongoing part of our inclusion work.
Join us, and then tell all of your friends who have taken shared parental leave or extended paternity leave that support is available from The MTPT Project!
- What if I'm already back at work: is the workshop still relevant?
If you have only recently returned to work (i.e. within the last half term) and can attend the workshop live, then it will still be very helpful for you as you settle into a routine as a parent-teacher.
- This is my second / third etc. return to work: is the workshop still relevant?
Our most bittersweet phrase at The MTPT Project is 'I wish I'd known about you on my first parental leave!' The workshop is packed with information and the opportunity to get a bit of headspace, valuable to all returners whether this is your first or tenth baby!
- Is the workshop relevant to TAs / support / central MAT staff?
Yes! There are some legal nuances related to your contracts, but the workshop is helpful for all parents working in education. Ensuring that support staff are engaging with, and feel welcome on our programmes is an important part of our inclusion focus for 2025-2026.
- I don't qualify for a funded place: can I use KIT / SPLIT days to fund the workshop?
Yes, and we strongly encourage you to do so if you don't qualify for a funded place! Your KIT / SPLIT days have to be mutually agreed, but using a KIT / SPLIT day to attend the workshop and implement any follow up actions is a great way of keeping in touch with your work identity and transitioning back into the classroom.
Just show your HR Manager the Eventbrite confirmation when you claim your KIT / SPLIT day as evidence of attendance.
- I'm looking for a workshop on another date.
All our upcoming workshops and other opportunities are listed on our Eventbrite page. Why not give us a follow to receive notifications of what's coming up?
- Colleagues in my school / organisation don't qualify for a funded place and I want to make a group booking to support them.
Please email Emma on mtptproject@gmail.com to make a group booking, or to set up a promo code for future workshops.
