About this event

  • 3 hours

Join community organisers and leaders for a participatory training on making our language more accessible and effective for organising in multilingual groups.

Everyone who is doing community organising in diverse contexts, and this can be diverse in terms of language varieties and dialects not only named languages, is doing multilingual community organising.

Better and more inclusive language practices can help bring communities together and organise across difference. This isn’t only important for building healthier communities, where people get along better, but also helps marginalised communities to become more powerful.

In this training we will tackle language concepts, reflect on our own language use when organising and practise tools that can help organisers and activists to navigate the linguistic difficulties posed by community organising in diverse areas. The training will be facilitated by English for Action teacher-organisers and will draw on community organising tools developed, in part, through our work with the Community Organising for All (COFA) project.

FAQs

Who is this training for?

Community organisers, trade union organisers, community leaders and anyone interested in making their language more accessible and effective for organising.

What is the Community Organising For All (COFA) project?

The COFA project is a transnational research and training initiative to develop inclusive approaches to community organising. This Erasmus+ funded project brings together four social action organisations from across Europe, including EFA. The project explores and connects community organising with other approaches, namely Theatre of the Oppressed, participatory pedagogy and multilingual facilitation. With this exchange, we aim to develop new tools for community leaders and organisers to build more inclusive organising spaces.
