Museum Open day

Barts Pathology Museum is a Grade II Listed medical museum on the site of St Bartholomew's Hospital, and part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). It was built in 1879 for the express purpose of housing anatomical specimens to be used by those studying medicine, and is still in use by QMUL's medical students today, for teaching, exams and study. The museum is therefore only open to the public, alumni and other interested parties for scheduled events organised around academic usage. As a result, these events sell out quickly. Barts Pathology Museum (Queen Mary)

Bart's Pathology Museum is holding a public open day, where you can explore the museum and meet staff. If you haven't been to the museum before then it is a remarkable collection of human pathological specimens reflecting over 200 years of medical education in the City and East End of London. The museum forms part of a large medical school, and on a few days a year we open to the public. This is an educational experience for those with an interest in medicine and the humanities. You can find specimens by Percival Pott, James Paget, Donald Hunter and John Abernethy. We also hold specialist events but to learn more about those please ask to join our mailing list by emailing bartspathology@qmul.ac.uk.
The museum does have several steps up to the entrance so it is not very friendly to those with a mobility impairment. Also, we would ask parents/guardians to make their own judgement as to suitability for children under the age of 16. Some specimens may not be suitable for a younger audience. Please email us if you require clarification on that matter. 
Refreshments will be available for a small donation. The museum doesn't receive any funding so anything you donate will go towards the specimen conservation fund.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
We suggest a minimum age of 16, but it is at the discretion of parents/guardians. 
 
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
By Underground to Farringdon, Barbican or St Paul's. By bus route 46 and 56. by car to Long Lane NCP (charges apply as well as congestion zone charges). 
 
What can I bring into the event?
No photography of the specimens. General (pan) shots are OK but not close ups of the specimens. Cycles can't be brought in to the museum as we have no where to put them.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes please. Even though it is free to enter we still need to keep a record of who is coming in to the museum as it is a requirement of our regulatory body.
 
Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?
Yes. Just drop us an email to let us know of the change. 
 
 Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
If you can't make it to the museum on the day, please drop us an email as soon as you know so we can offer your place to others. We have in the past been over-subscribed for these open days and want to make the collection available to as many as possible.
