Event description

Description

Inspired by ongoing NUS and KCLSU campaigns to "Liberate Our Curriculum", KCL Library Champions invite students and staff to kick-off the conversation by taking part in the first King’s MyReadingList Hackathon.

Join us to create your own reading lists championing underrepresented voices and topics. Many authors have been - and continue to be - overlooked or structurally marginalised because their gender, race, class and sexuality are not seen to conform with the dominant narrative.

This is an opportunity to recommend critical texts for the library that are not currently included in our collections (but should be!) Help us to celebrate difference by decentring Whiteness and diversifying the voices and perspectives KCL students can access, armed with coffee, biscuits, books and ideas. After the event, the library will review all reading lists made, and buy as much of the material as we can.

‘Within the interdependence of mutual (nondominant) differences lies that security which enables us to descend into the chaos of knowledge and return with true visions of our future, along with the concomitant power to effect those changes which can bring that future into being. Difference is that raw and powerful connection from which our personal power is forged’.
