Explore the mythical and magical in this writing workshop!

Suitable for beginner and intermediate writers of fantasy fiction (over 18s only).

Myth and magic are integral components of fantasy writing. They tie in to both worldbuilding and characterisation, and they are essential plot drivers. A good, coherent magical system with a solid foundation in world stories makes for intrigue, compelling mystery, and a lot of fun for both writer and reader.

This two-hour workshop will focus on how to generate ideas, then go on to craft and develop these elements of a fantasy writing project. We’ll discuss what makes myth and magic work well (or not) in fantasy, and do some practical, focused exercises.

Perhaps you’ve the bare bones of a story or even just some initial ideas you want to build on, or maybe you’ve a more established project and want to hone the magical system and the mythological underpinnings of your world and its belief system. Either way, I’m looking forward to exploring magic with you!
