Naloxone Training and Harm Reduction Session

Midlothian Voluntary Action (MVA) provides support, guidance and representation for third sector organisations working in Midlothian. We do this in a number of different ways, including running various training sessions and events throughout the year.MVA's webinars, training, & events are open to:Staff, volunteers and directors of community groups, third sector organisations and social enterprises that benefit people living in Midlothian.Anyone starting up or thinking about starting up a new community project or social enterprise that will benefit Midlothian residents.Community councillors and other Midlothian-based community activistsStaff from key public sector partner agencies (Midlothian Council, NHS Lothian, etc).Priority will always be given to people working in Midlothian, but where space allows we will offer limited slots to third sector colleagues from other areas of Scotland.Midlothian Voluntary Action is part of Midlothian Third Sector Interface (TSI). Carrying naloxone and knowing how to use it could help you to save a life - join us for a full training session & chat about harm reduction.

Join MVA on Thursday 12 September, 12.30pm for free naloxone training &amp; a chat about drug harm reduction in the third sector.The training will be carried out by experienced staff from Midlothian Substance Use Service. The session will last around 45 minutes, with extra time for questions at the end.What is Naloxone?Naloxone is a medicine that rapidly reverses an overdose of opioid drugs like codeine, morphine, tramadol, fentanyl, heroin, methadone and buprenorphine. Knowing how to administer it could help you to save a life.Most overdoses involve multiple substances. It should always be suspected that opioids are involved, given their presence in 82% of all drug-related deaths in Scotland.In the UK it is legal for anyone to administer naloxone to anyone for the purpose of saving a life. Administering naloxone is not a substitute for calling an ambulance. You should always call 999 if you think someone is having an overdose.Where will the training take place?This session will be held in-person at the MVA office (4-6 White Hart Street, Dalkeith, EH221AE), please email info@mvacvs.org.uk if you have any questions or access requirements.
