NEBOSH National General Certificate

It is relevant to every workplace; ideal for managers, supervisors, or anybody with health and safety management responsibilities and also perfect for those seriously embarking on a health and safety career.
Course Format
A note on course updates:
The course was heavily revised in 2020 and now comprises of just two units (NG1 & NG2). The content has been adapted and updated to reflect current Health & Safety practices for 2020 and is delivered over 10 full-day tutor led sessions plus a further revision/support day.
The assessment now comprises just one exam and one practical assessment.
Unit NG1 is examined by an Open Book Exam taken over 24hrs (replacing NGC1)
Unit NG2 is assessed through a practical assessment (a longer assessment than the previous GC3) done in your workplace or a suitable location.

Overview
The course will equip delegates to build risk assessments through teaching, study and workplace application so they are able to:
- Confidently carry out risk assessments
- Develop and implement a detailed action plan
- Manage and minimise workplace risks
- Support and develop your company’s health and safety culture
You will gain an in-depth focus on what matters. The NEBOSH National General Certificate covers:
- How to effectively manage health and safety
- How to identify and control common workplace hazards
- How to measure if you’ve been successful
- The UK’s key legal requirements

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety
- Why we should manage workplace health and safety
- How health and safety management systems work and what they look like
- Managing risk - understanding people and processes
- Health and safety monitoring and measuring
Unit NG2: Risk Assessment
- Physical and psychological health
- Musculoskeletal health
- Chemical and biological agents
- General workplace issues
- Work equipment
- Fire
- Electricity
Assessment:
This modern qualification combines activities, learning and interactive materials to provide you with an interesting and engaging experience. It focuses on key skills that means you can instantly apply the knowledge you gain and add value to your organisation.
Assessment is a two-step process:
An Open Book Exam to be completed over 24hrs (at home/work)*
A practical risk assessment to assess what you can do (3 hours)
Delegates can defer to a later exam date and attend subsequent course sessions if agreed
by arrangement with the College
Assessments are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH. They are chosen for their experience and expertise to ensure that learners are assessed by the very best from our industry.
Please note – the practical application should be carried out in the candidates own workplace. Where the candidate does not have access to a suitable workplace, it may be possible to arrange an alternative venue, subject to approval by NEBOSH.
*The Open Book Exam format also requires a short closing interview to verify that the submission is the candidate’s own work.
Entry Qualifications:
There are no entry requirements for this qualification, however it is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. NEBOSH recommend that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests. Course materials:
Delegates are provided with a the official Nebosh book Managing Health and Safety in the UK as well as a course file with summaries from each session.
Where It Could Lead:
It provides the basis for progression to the NEBOSH National Diploma or NVQ route
Cost: The cost of this course is £1,450 per person if booked directly over the phone/email) (Please note it is a higher cost if booked via Eventbrite : £1555.19), course cost includes the Nebosh publication Health & Safety at Work and registration for the exam submissions. Any exam resits or resubmissions may incur an additional cost.
