Network Defenders’ "Hacking" competition

In a bid to build network defence skills in ICT staff, we’re running an entry level “capture the flag” style hacking competition.
 Delegates should be familiar with administering an ‘Enterprise’ Network in a Microsoft Windows environment and know what an IP address is. We’ll provide a list of free tools you should download and install on a laptop, run a short introduction on how to use them, then provide a briefing on the test scenario.  After the briefing we’ll provide a network cable connected to the test environment so you can start hacking! There will be a number of things to find hidden on the network, points will be scored depending on which ones you find and how long it takes.
 Teams can be any size, but we’ll only give each team up to two network cables to access the lab, so probably better if they can fit round a laptop. It is an open book competition, there will be Internet access available if you want to research as you go.
 Pre Requisites
●       Familiarity with basic network terminology and how networks operate ●       Laptop capable of running virtual machines (VirtualBox, VMWare Workstation etc.) within your team 
You must be working as an IT or security professional in a Kent public sector organisation e.g. school, university, local government, Fire and Rescue service, Police, heath service or similar.  Access to this course is restricted to staff from these organisations 
 Advantageous experience
●       Basic understanding of Linux terminals ●       Kali Linux image (provided by us in advance as on OVA file) ●       Experience with Wireshark, Nmap, SSH

 Important
Accessing a network or computer system without authorisation is illegal and can lead to fines and imprisonment. The purpose of this competition is the development of penetration testing skills to help delegates understand how to better protect their environments.
