An Introductory, Hands-on Workshop on Network Analysis in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Social Network Analysis is one of the most vibrant and rapidly growing methodologies in the social sciences and humanities today.This workshop will introduce the basic principles of this method, explore its potential for analysing social phenomena, and discuss the pitfalls of the approach.You will also experiment with network software and learn to visualise and analyse connections.This event assumes no previous knowledge and is designed to provide a general foundation for everyone interested in the topic, from undergraduates to experienced researchers.Programme:Wednesday, 23 October, 2019Room: ART-0-0711:00-13:00: From data to network model: organisation, processing and entering of relational data/practical work with data and software, part I13:00-13:30 Lunch break13:30-16:00: From the model to results: analysis, visualisation and interpretation of network models/practical work with data and software, part II16:00-17:00: Open discussion/consultation for individual research projects of the participants (with regard to conceptual or technical challenges) Dr Johannes Preiser-Kapeller is Senior Researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.For more information, the links to the software we will be using and the related readings please contact Sapfo.Psani@rhul.ac.ukThis event is sponsored by the ERC-funded project CONNEC
