<h3>About the Event</h3>Join us for this special event featuring an insightful keynote address to launch our Neurodiversity Celebration Week: Professor Jason Arday. With opening and closing remarks by Professor Rajani Naidoo Vice-President and Deputy Vice -Chancellor (People and Culture) at the University of Exeter.We are honoured to host Professor Jason Arday, who is a renowned sociologist and a researcher of race, inequality, and education. Jason is the youngest ever Black professor at the University of Cambridge and one of the youngest people appointed to a Professorship in Oxbridge's history. At a young age Jason was diagnosed as autistic. He didn’t speak until he was 11 and couldn’t read or write until the age of 18, and this has influenced his remarkable career as an educator, researcher, and a philanthropist who has raised over £5 million for charity. Jason advocates for more equitable educational experiences.We are delighted to welcome Jason as our keynote address to launch our Neurodiversity Celebration Week. Jason will be sharing his lived experience and insights into higher education and the intersections of race and neurodiversity.Please join us in person to meet and greet and network with colleagues

<h3>About The Speaker</h3>Jason Arday is a Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Cambridge, Faculty of Education, and a Professorial Fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge. He was a guest editor on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme and was ranked fourth on the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 list in 2023. Professor Arday has previously held the position of Professor of Sociology of Education at the University of Glasgow, School of Education; Associate Professor in Sociology at Durham University in the Department of Sociology; and Deputy Executive Dean for People and Culture in the Faculty of Social Science and Health. He is a Visiting Professor at The Ohio State University in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, University of Glasgow in the School of Education, and an Honorary Professor at Durham University in the Department of Sociology. He sits on several influential advisory panels, including the NHS Race and Health Observatory and the ITV Cultural Advisory Council. Jason is a Patron of the Adult Literacy Trust and Get Further. He also serves as a Trustee of the British Sociological Association and previously spent 11 years as a Trustee of the Runnymede Trust, the UK’s leading race equality Think tank. In recognition of his contributions to education and sociology, Professor Arday was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Education by Anglia Ruskin University in 2024.
