New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)

Methodologies, approaches or combination thereof that can be used to provide information on chemical hazard and potential human exposure.

NAMs - New Approach Methodologies - refers to new, non animal-based research methods for testing the potential risks and hazards of using chemicals and drugs. Recent advances in computer modelling and biotechnology mean that these technologies can now be used in chemical and drug risk assessment. Excitingly, these innovative alternatives to animal testing represent a huge step-change away from from conventional animal testing. We are scientists at King's College London, passionate about our research into NAMs and their potential application across a wide range of disciplines. On this platform, we aim to raise awareness of current NAMs research and the considerable challenges we face in making this step-change away from animal testing. Crucial to overcoming these challenges are collaborations across as many disciplines as possible.
