About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours 10 minutes

Come along to the Woodshop of Recycled Delights' 'Next Steps' Workshop to create and repair with reclaimed timber!

Bring an idea of something you'd like to make from timber, and WoRD's friendly facilitators will help you get started. We'll take you through:

  • Conceiving and designing your project
  • working out a cut list
  • picking the best material for your project (certain reclaimed timber supplied free-of-charge by WoRD)
  • using the right tool for the job
  • expanding your experience on different power tools
  • beginning to frame your project

Simple projects may be able to be completed in a single session, however more complex designs may need more time! Once you've attended a WoRD Next Steps workshop, you're then free to visit the workshop during our Open Sessions and continue to work on your project, using our tools and timber free of charge!

NOTE: WoRD 'Next Steps' Workshops are designed for participants who have previously attended an Introductory Session.
Our Intro Sessions will get you started on your woodworking journey, so if you haven't yet attended one of these check our event page for the next session and sign up there!

We're passionate about supporting people to make whatever they want out of reclaimed material, and the possibilities are truly endless.

Suitable for ages16+, our session will begin with an introductory tool talk for those who'd like it, and then you can crack on with making the project of your dreams or repairing your wooden items.

We take a co-learning approach, so whilst our facilitators have a little experience, they are not experts. Together we can work out how to make or fix things using reclaimed materials.

Workshop starts at 12pm - please arrive on-time to begin!

The GED is an outdoor space, so bring weather-appropriate clothing and wear sensible footwear. See you there!

A note on fees:

WoRD delivers accessible woodworking workshops to people traditionally excluded from carpentry spaces and those who face barriers to access. We reserve a number of accessible places for people who may face a financial barrier to learning. If this is you, please book one of our 'deposit' places, and we'll make sure your £10 deposit is refunded to you on attendance.

If you can afford to, please purchase a ticket. We have a sliding scale of contributions and encourage you to book a place accordingly. Your ticket goes towards covering the costs of sessions and funding future workshops, meaning we can keep local people employed, rescue more timber from waste, and offer skill sharing to as many people as possible.

Everyone is welcome to our sessions, no matter what they can afford. If even the refundable deposit is tricky, do get in touch, and we can waive it.

Frequently asked questions

I have no experience with tools, can I still come?

We're here to support everyone to learn how to work with wood, no matter what your level. If you've never done anything like this before, we'd recommend coming along to one of our Introductory Workshops where you'll learn how to use the tools in our workshop and make something in a group.
