About this event

Every so often, two musicians meet and something just clicks. Six years ago, that spark ignited between guitarists Libor Šmoldas and Nigel Price—two kindred spirits united by their love of straight-ahead, “no nonsense” jazz, laced with the grit of the blues and the soul of the great masters.

Expect a programme of beautifully chosen standards alongside a few originals—music played with reverence for tradition yet always with their own fresh, personal spin.

Libor Šmoldas

From Prague to the world stage, guitarist Libor Šmoldas has built an international reputation as both performer and composer. He has shared the stage and recording studio with the likes of James Morrison, George Mraz, Jeff Ballard, Sam Yahel, Bobby Watson, Adam Nussbaum, Brian Charette, and many more. With eight albums as a leader and a coveted Anděl Award (Czech equivalent of the Grammys) for Best Jazz Recording under his belt, Libor brings elegance, drive, and deep-rooted jazz knowledge to every performance.

Nigel Price

Closer to home, Nigel Price has been one of the UK’s most celebrated jazz guitarists for over three decades. His career is a testament to both hard graft and unshakeable musicality: more than 60 albums recorded (10 as leader), a long stint with acid jazz favourites The Filthy Six, years on the road with James Taylor’s band (five albums together), and collaborations with legends including David Axelrod. He is a Parliamentary Jazz Award winner, a multiple British Jazz Award nominee, and a firm favourite at Ronnie Scott’s, where he has played over 600 shows. Nigel’s playing is at once virtuosic, swinging, and deeply soulful.

The Rhythm Section

Completing this all-star quartet are two of the UK’s finest: Oli Hayhurst on double bass—renowned for his extraordinary decade with the great Pharoah Sanders—and the thrilling young talent Joel Barford on drums, already making waves internationally with his breathtaking energy and imagination.

This promises to be an unforgettable night of world-class jazz guitar, swinging rhythm, and joyful musical conversation. Don’t miss it!
