The NUJ’s Code of Ethics states that "a journalist at all times upholds and defends the principle of media freedom, the right of freedom of expression and the right of the public to be informed". NUJ members Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey upheld this principle and were arrested as a consequence. 
 
Ten years of research went into their documentary film, No Stone Unturned, which tells the story of a brutal massacre in a country pub when masked men gunned down football fans, leaving six dead and five injured. It also reveals a litany of corruption involving police, paramilitary gangs and the army - before, during and after the killings.
 
A quarter of a century later, nobody has been arrested for the murders, but two journalists have been arrested for doing their jobs and reporting on them.
 
The journalists have now been on pre-charge bail for months and they will report back to the PSNI in September - by which time they will have been on bail for more than a year.  
 
As an NUJ member you are invited to a special screening of their film at 7pm on Sunday 14th April in Glasgow– and an opportunity to hear from Trevor Birney and Barry McCaffrey themselves.
 
Spaces are free to members, but are strictly limited on a first-come, first-served basis.

At the event on Sunday 14th April, we will have a screening of the documentary followed by a question-and-answer session with Birney and McCaffrey.  Please come along to show your support for the journalists and this important freedom-of-speech case.
