Night Creatures & Dark Skies: An Evening Discovery Trail Walk

Step into The Cabrach after dark and experience the landscape as few ever do. In collaboration with the EDF Rangers, we invite you to join us for an atmospheric evening walk along The Cabrach Discovery Trail—an adventure designed to reveal the hidden world that awakens when the sun goes down.

Using UV torches and head torches, you’ll search for creatures of the night, from glowing lichens and insects to the quiet movement of nocturnal wildlife. The Discovery Trail offers a unique backdrop for spotting these nighttime wonders, with its mix of woodland edges, open ground, and gently flowing water.

And because The Cabrach is blessed with some of the darkest skies in Scotland, there’s every chance that the stars will put on a show of their own. On a clear night, constellations shine bright, the Milky Way stretches overhead, and planets may even be visible—turning your walk into a magical stargazing experience.

After exploring the trail, we’ll head back to The Acorn for a warming bowl of traditional Stovies, a cuppa, and time to chat about what we discovered.
