Founded in 1979, the Brussels Choral Society is the largest amateur symphony choir in Belgium. Truly an international ensemble, the choir consists of about 100 members, representing more than 20 different nationalities. BCS singers come from all walks of life and share a common passion for choral music. Our singers have a wide variety of occupations, and many are professionally associated with the European institutions and international organisations. Kim André Arnesen, Ēriks Ešenvalds and Ola Gjeilo are contemporary composers of choral music of outstanding melodic and harmonious richness. Originally from the north of Europe, their music is becoming internationally known and has already received enthusiastic critical acclaim from audiences and performers alike. The Brussels Choral Society is proud to present this introduction to their individual sound worlds. Arnesen’s Magnificat is an extended composition for solo soprano, mixed chorus and strings that deserves to be heard. The music of Grieg, probably Northern Europe’s most famous romantic composer, is also included in the programme, including his attractive Holberg Suite for string orchestra.

Kim André Arnesen, Ēriks Ešenvalds et Ola Gjeilo sont des compositeurs contemporains de musique chorale d’une exceptionnelle richesse mélodique et harmonique. Originaires du Nord de l'Europe, ils ont acquis une célébrité internationale de par leur musique qui a déjà reçu des critiques élogieuses, tant de la part du public que des musiciens. La Brussels Choral Society est fière de présenter cette introduction à leur univers sonore individuel. Le Magnificat de Arnesen est une œuvre splendide primitivement composée pour voix de femmes, mais réécrite plus tard pour soprano solo, chœur mixte, piano, orgue et cordes. La musique de Grieg, probablement le compositeur romantique le plus célèbre de l’Europe du Nord figure également dans ce programme, notamment sa magnifique Holberg Suite pour orchestre à cordes.
