While offering a very simple model to the users, and with some notable limitations, it can scale almost endlessly. It is reported to have achieved 80M transactions per second, when servicing Amazon Retail platform on Black Friday 2020.Key to DynamoDB&#x27;s scalability is a shared-nothing, scale-out and multi-tenant architecture. Postgres doesn&#x27;t have a native sharding capability, but would it be needed to offer similar performance and scalability characteristics to those of DynamoDB? How to speed up JSONB in PostgreSQL?JSONB was added to PostgreSQL to enhance its functionality as a document store. Now JSON is a popular data type in Postgres, and many users want to improve its performance. Typically, JSONB is used as a storage for relatively short metadata and big BLOBs, which is not highly efficient. We’ll see how to optimise this pattern and discuss several approaches to better JSONB performance. We will also present a series of benchmark results which we got experimenting.Speaker Bio (Oleg Bartunov)Oleg Bartunov has been involved in PostgreSQL development since 1996 when he introduced locale support. He is a Major Contributor and a member of the PGDG. Together with his colleague Teodor Sigaev, Oleg developed infrastructure for implementing user-defined index access methods (GiST, GIN and SP-GiST), built-in full-text search facilities in PostgreSQL (formerly known as tsearch2) and a number of popular extensions like intarray, ltree, hstore, pg_trgm, jsquery and RUM access method. His latest contributions are JSONB and the implementation of SQL/JSON.Oleg graduated from the Astronomy department of the Physics department at Moscow State University. During his professional work at Sternberg Astronomical Institute (SAI MSU) he realized he needed a free and powerful open-source database like PostgreSQL (Postgres95 back then). Since 1995, Oleg extensively used PostgreSQL in his scientific work and many other projects.
