Following a successful first meeting in July where Achieving for Children and voluntary sector groups came together to share and learn about pupil support in Richmond, we are pleased to invite you to the first Alternative Provision Voluntary Sector Forum, which will be led by Sheldon Snashall, AfC Associate Director for Pupil Support. We hope this will become a termly opportunity to come together and grow the provision for children and their families.
The Pupil Support service plays a pivotal role in promoting positive relationships with schools, providers and all partners in health and social care, to meet the needs of more vulnerable groups of learners. The Associate Director for Pupil Support is the lead local authority officer for children missing education and oversees all panels to support this area. This service includes Education Inclusion Teams:
- Education Welfare Service (EWS)
- Education Inclusion Support Service (EISS)
- Exclusions and Reintegration Officer
- Anstee Bridge
Topic: Nurture and a Sense of Belonging
The topic focus for the meeting will be Nurture and a Sense of Belonging. For students in alternative provision and their parents, nurturing a sense of belonging is key to reengagement with school. We will explore the challenges of reintegration through a case study and, through discussion, learn from you about the approaches and activities you use in your work to build confidence and connection. We hope to build a profile of key elements which contribute to a young person or parent feeling included, understand the gaps and work together to address them.
There will also be time for networking, sharing good practice and upcoming events.
Who should attend?
This forum is for staff, volunteers and trustees of voluntary sector organisations providing services that support children and young people in Richmond with their mental, emotional, and physical health, and their social communication. This includes organisations working with young carers, children with SEND and parent carers.
