Session leads:
- Trainer: Anna Rhodes, Outreach Officer, Collections Trust
- Facilitator: Sarah Sinka, Museum Development South East
What will be covered?
We will focus on the Spectrum 5.1 procedure, Object entry. This procedure covers ‘logging all objects coming into your care for whatever reason, including loans, enquiries and potential acquisitions.’
The session will include going through the 10 minimum requirements and the importance of having a clear Collections Development Policy. We will then explore 3 different scenarios of objects entering your museum.
We will be focusing on the importance of having robust object entry procedures and how these should be written in your Documentation Procedures Manual.
Linked session
Attendees from the MDSE region (not including London) will have the opportunity to book onto an additional session on Thursday 15 October at 10am. You will be told how to book onto this opportunity at the September session. This session will offer peer supported development of your Object entry procedure in your documentation procedures manual.
Your manual should provide the step-by-step instructions on how you implement the Spectrum procedures in your museum. Not only is this document a requirement for Accreditation but having a clear manual will provide consistency in communicating your systems to staff and volunteers and is an important legacy document to pass on the way your collection is managed.
Attendees to this extra session will submit their procedure for Object entry in advance for constructive discussion with a small group of participants from up to 6 museums.
Format of session
Interactive workshop with breakout rooms, zoom polls, and discussion (attendees can contribute using Zoom chat and over microphone).
