About this event
Join photographer George Bull for a collaborative photography session. As part of his practice George is interested in how we hold onto identities from where we were born and grew up. Whether you are from the UK or further abroad we all carry our identity with us and display it in the places we live as a reminder of home.
In this 15-20 minute 1-to-1 or small group (max 3 people) session you will photograph an object you feel expresses your identity from your place of origin. You will have the option to be photographed with the object as a self portrait or produce a still life of the object using professional photographic equipment.
George Bull is a photographer and teacher based in Reading. His practice mixes portraiture and documentary styles to tell stories. He recently completed an MA in Photography with Falmouth University and is continuing to produce work with asylum seekers, refugees and mirgated people to document their experiences in the UK.

We'd love to invite you to drop in anytime through the session with an object that means someting to you.
The image you produce will be included as part of George's long term photographic project exploring how Britain is made up of a patchwork of cultures and identities.

Where are you based?
Our studios are located within Broad St Mall. You can find us on the first floor. We are the last unit before the toilets and exit to the carpark. If you get lost please ask any Broad St Mall security guard and they will direct you.
Sometimes our workshops take place in the community. Be sure to check the address on your ticket.
What if I cannot make my Mother Tongue session, I am going to be late or need to leave early?
You do not have to attend every week. Drop in anytime between 10am and 11.30am. Be sure to check the date when you able to return as Mother Tongue only runs during the school term times (Mother Tongue does not run during the School Holidays and School Half Term Holidays)
If I cannot make my paid workshop, can I transfer my ticket to another event or get a refund?
Mother Tongue relies on donations and when booking your space their is a option to donate.
Our free community workshops and festival workshops are often made possible due to funding by the organisers. These workshops are popular and run at capacity. If you have selected a free ticket and are no longer able to attend please return your ticket so it is able to go to people on our waiting list.
