Learn about evidence-based Occupational Therapy for children with complex needs from birth to transition to adulthood, considering the application of theory, assessment and interventions.
This is a new one day course designed as an addition to the Introduction to Paediatric Occupational Therapy course ran by OT Applied (https://www.otapplied.com/introduction-to-occupational-therapy-for-children-young-people-and-families). It is aimed at Paediatric Occupational Therapists who are interested to learn from clinicians who are specialists in their field, about working in special schools and with the families of children with complex, physical, sensory and learning needs. It will appeal to new graduates as well as those working in paediatrics and other areas of Occupational Therapy, at band 5 or 6 level. Prior knowledge of ICF (International Classification of Function, Disability & Health) and OTIPM (Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model) is recommended.
The course includes:
- Applying ICF and OTIPM to children with complex needs
- Service models including applying the Tiered Approach
- Current best practice in assessment and goal setting
- Theory in action: postural care, enabling environments, specialist equipment and participation.
- Working as part of a team with families and health and education services
- Dealing with degenerative conditions and palliative care
