About this event

EG Talking Threads - A talk between Shelley Rhodes and Debbie Lyddon.

This is a recording of the Talking Threads event from February 2023. Registering gives you instant access to the recording. Access will remain for at least one month after registration.

Shelley and Debbie discussed how the natural world inspires two textile artists from different parts of the country. Both of them observe and record what they see on regular walks in the countryside around them and this feeds into their working life.

Shelley Rhodes

Shelley finds great interest in observing and recording detail: extracting small marks found in nature or on man-made objects. She is drawn to the effects of time, the transience of nature, the things that go un-noticed and the ever changing fragility of the things that she encounters.

Her current work explores the impact of man on the environment in particular, the bleaching and destruction of the world's coral reefs, due to rising sea temperatures. New work also begins to investigate the impact of discarded plastic on our oceans and marine life.

Debbie Lyddon

Debbie's inspiration comes from being out in the natural world – from walking, noticing, collecting, being curious and learning.

She makes mixed media cloths, sculptures, installations and drawings which originate from thoughts and memories that are a consequence of experiencing place and paying attention.

Debbie lives on the Norfolk coast and is member of the 62 Group.
