David Thorpe (author of 'One Planet Cities') will host the launch of the campaign for One Planet Cardiff.

The gathering hopes to set up a working group to steer this forward, as happened in Swansea.We want Cardiff to become a 'One Planet’ City – using only its fair share of resources and bringing more nature into the city.We want public bodies like the Council and Welsh Government to use their huge spending power to lever this change.David says: "Come on Cardiff, we can't let Swansea steal a march on us!"The One Planet City framework maps out the way. Its five steps will enable positive system change, helping to create: more local production and supply, an end to needless waste and ecological damage, a growth in the eco-sector, more local jobs, greater prosperity and improved health. There is everything to gain here – and nothing to lose!The launch will explain and discuss how any public or private body can use the tools available to optimise their spending decisions for the greater good. Citizens can start to steer governance towards making CARDIFF reduce its ecological and carbon footprint as well as preventing further ecological damage. SWANSEA has already begun this journey!This is a logical next step to declaring Climate Emergency. It will start to meet the aim of 'One Planet' Wales in the Well-Being of Future Generations Act introduced by the Welsh Government in 2015.David Thorpe is a life-long eco-activist and author of 'One Planet' Cities: Sustaining Humanity within Planetary Limits, and The 'One Planet' Life: A Blueprint for Low Impact Development, and is a founder/patron of The One Planet Council, and a lecturer in 'one planet' governance at University of Wales Trinity St David.
