Online Talk: Bags & Purses

Online Talk: Bags & Purses

By Gawthorpe Textiles Collection
Online event

Overview

An online talk from Gawthorpe Textiles Collection looking at bags and purses across four centuries of fashion history.

In this online presentation we will be exploring our collection of bags, purses, reticules and even pockets; covering four centuries of stylish accessories. Using high-resolution photographs we will take a close-up look at the design and decoration of each item, the techniques and skills involved in creating them and how the fashions of the day influenced these accessories.

The session will be run online through Zoom with the presentation lasting around an hour followed by time for questions and informal discussion. Please note that this is a repeat of the talk first given on the 6th May 2021 and while the live narration may vary the presentation content will be the same.

The money we make from this event goes straight back into supporting our work with the collection: to use the items to inspire and educate people and preserve them for future generations to enjoy as well.

Joining the Talk

  • Your link will only take you through to the Zoom session if we have activated the meeting. We will do this a minimum of 15 minutes before the event to enable participants to join ahead of the start time. When you access it you should either see the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection logo or the title slide for the talk, you might not see the presenter live on screen as we usually disable video to allow you to enjoy the slides of the presentation fully.
  • For most users clicking on the link provided will allow easy access to the talk. Zoom is compatible with a broad range of mobiles, tablets and desktop devices. If you experience difficulties viewing this may be due to a slow internet connection or if you are using an older device. If this is the case, try exiting Zoom and then re-clicking the link. Be patient, it may take a little while for your device to synchronise with the talk.

During the Talk

  • Please ensure that your microphone and video are both turned off/muted to make sure that everyone can hear the speaker properly without unwanted distractions.
  • Use the chat function in Zoom to ask questions throughout the talk. Questions will be answered following the formal section of the presentation, so please phrase your question clearly, especially if you are referring to a specific slide or item.
  • Sit back and enjoy!
  • Remember - if you experience any difficulties throughout the talk, contact us through the chat function. This will be monitored throughout and we will do our best to help where we can.
