About this event
- Event lasts 45 minutes
ONS Local has been established by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support evidence-based decision-making at the local level. We aim to host insightful events that connect our users with exciting developments happening in subnational statistics and analysis at the ONS and across other organisations. This webinar is presented by the ONS’ Explore Subnational Statistics Team.
Do you ever find yourself needing data for low levels of geography e.g. neighbourhood, ward or parish?
If the answer to the question is “YES!”, then this webinar is definitely for you!
Build a custom area profile tool allows users to get data for many standard area types (wards, parliamentary constituencies etc.) as well as any arbitrary (non-standard) geographic area that they define, which might relate e.g. to an urban neighbourhood, commercial district or school catchment area.
An area can be searched by name or postcode, drawn on the map or upload a pre-defined area, users can then choose multiple datasets, and the values for the area are calculated from small area data using a "best-fit" methodology. Optionally, data is also provided for a "comparison" area, which might be the parent region or country, a neighbouring area, or any other area selected by the user.
We will present an update on the redesigned Build a Custom Area Profile tool which now includes some newer non-Census data as well as the Census 2021 data.
This event is open to all; however, we anticipate it will be of most interest to anyone working at a local level, with data on the policy themes of demography and migration, economy, education and skills, ethnic group, national identity, language and religion, health and wellbeing, housing, or interested in data visualisation products.
