ONS Local has been established by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to promote evidence-based decision-making at the local level. We aim to host insightful workshops which will provide practical, technical support to help users make the most of ONS and cross government data. The Local Government Association is the national membership body for local authorities and they work on behalf of their member councils to support, promote and improve local government. Rutland County Council is a unitary council in the East Midlands. The council’s Business Intelligence team (led by Arron Gourlay, with David Wylie, Technical Development Lead) is a corporate service working towards rolling out Power BI for high-quality insight across all council directorates.
Join Arron Gourlay, Business Intelligence Service Manager and David Wylie, Technical Development Lead at Rutland County Council, to hear about their approach to dashboard design philosophies within local government.
Arron and David will deliver a practical masterclass on creating clear and concise dashboards that meet the needs of the service. This session will cover how to choose the right visualisation, reducing clutter and accessibility to ensure dashboards are intuitive for all users.
Afterwards they will share some best practices in local government including some of their real-world examples as well as how they brought the data to life with storytelling techniques. Finally, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and answers.
If you have any questions, please contact ons.local@ons.gov.uk.
